Medicare EMR is proud to announce the addition of an ambulance to their fleet. For the past 6 years we have operated as a response and stabilization service. Over the years we have worked closely with government as well as private ambulance services “filling the gap” in providing our services.
With the average waiting period of an ambulance being between 30 minutes to up to 4 hours, Medicare EMR has played a crucial role through responding and stabilising patients within minutes, preventing the loss of life and deterioration of patients’ conditions. It is a known fact that the longer a patient takes to get to an appropriate facility, the longer the stay in hospital and the longer the recovery period, resulting in the greater impact on the system and medical aids.
Even with Medical Aids covering transportation to hospital, no medical aid can prevent serious injury or the loss of life when minutes matter. We have always strived to provide the best emergency care our community. A combination of the strain on government resources and new legislation that was passed, it became evident that in order to continue operating our service we needed to acquire an ambulance in our fleet.
Operating a fully fledged ambulance service has its pros and cons. One of the downsides is the operating cost. But the advantages are much greater in the benefits of having a locally based ambulance. In order to help with the financial support of the running of the ambulance service and generating the necessary funds, the ambulance will be primarily used for Special Events. When the ambulance is not being utilized at events, it will be available for the free transportation of our members in the event of a medical emergency. In addition to this we will also make ourselves available to government to help relieve the pressure on the state services which will be funded via a newly established NPO.
We aim to have the service up and running by mid October 2012 once all the paperwork has been finalised.
