The local police station has decided that they will no longer contact us in the event of an emergency as it is not in their mandate to do so and as far as they are concerned the only need to contact the Metro ambulance in Stellenbosch.
This is a rather unfortunate attitude that has a catastrophic effect on our local community as it takes the Metro staff at least 20 minutes to get to Franschhoek before a patient is stabilized, whereas we can be on scene literally within minutes.
We have taken the matter further with our local councillors and lodged a formal complaint via the newly established Community Police Forum. Hopefully this matter will be sorted out soon but in the mean time we urge you not to rely on the local police to contact us and rather do so directly.
